New York State Senator Martin J. Golden presented a resolution to the Stop & Shop supermarket, 1710 Avenue Y in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn, and certificates of recognition to the store’s two pharmacists in commendation of Stop & Shop’s free antibiotic prescription program.
The senator recognized Stop & Shop for its major consumer wellness initiative in launching a free prescription program covering 36 generic antibiotics in nine basic categories. Stop & Shop’s program is running now to March 21, 2009, at all Stop & Shop pharmacies.
“With costs rising and the uncertainty of the job market, it is growing increasingly difficult for people to afford the day-to-day necessities of life.” said Golden. “Stop & Shop is doing a very admirable thing in offering a very valuable program that will help people save on antibiotic prescriptions, allowing family members to get healthy and still have money in their pockets for food, fuel and bills,” Golden said.
Rodger Rosicki, regional pharmacy manager for Stop & Shop, accepted the resolution on behalf of the company. Said Rosicki: “Stop & Shop embarked upon the free antibiotic prescription program because we wanted to make a difference. It isn’t “business as usual” for anyone, least of all our customers. With this free antibiotic program and in every undertaking with our customers, we are making a conscious acknowledgment of the responsibility we have to assist family budgets, to demonstrate to them that we are a reliable, caring partner and that we will make every effort to assist them through these tough economic times. We wanted to send a message to families that in tough times you are not alone.”
Rosicki thanked the senator on behalf of the company. “We are proud to be serving your constituents and our customers and families in Brooklyn, the greatest little city in the world,” he told the senator.
Stop & Shop’s free antibiotic program is not just a one-off, standalone effort but part of a much bigger picture.
Over the last year, Stop & Shop and Giant introduced Real Deal and other programs committed to saving money for its customers and supporting them through tough economic times. The company’s Affordable Food Summits, lower prices and increased availability of corporate brand products all are focused on giving customers choices and ensuring healthy meals for their families.
