A new exhibition titled “They’re There,” featuring the works of six street photographers, debuted last week at the Corner Gallery inside Brooklyn Made at City Point.

Curator Stephanie Keith, a photojournalist herself, said when she was asked to create something for Corner Gallery, she knew she wanted to “highlight the unsung heroes of the art world that do photography inspired by their love and desire for exploration.”

Keith set out to find the street photographers she loved whose work “portrayed the sublime of daily life.”

The beauty of street photographers, she said, is that they are “wanderers who have the ability to showcase the diversity of visions, people, and situations that occur throughout Brooklyn.”

The photographers who are part of “They’re There” use both digital and film cameras and shoot everything from unique, un-staged scenes they find on the streets to portraits.

Reuben Radding, a featured artist in “They’re There,” said he is grateful to be a part of something that shows several different approaches to the practice of street photography.

The exhibit allows “each photographer’s work to stand apart, as they are clearly not alike,” he said.

Radding hopes those who view his work are left with questions that he as the artist is not there to answer, rather viewers are to use their own subjective reasoning, which allows for a more personal experience.

Another contributor to the “They’re There” exhibition, Syndi Pilar, said she is glad to be a part of something that celebrates the work of a mixture of photographers, breaking the norm of often male-dominated shows.

Through her work, Pilar said she hopes to “transport the viewer into the moment” by expertly capturing the “energy of the crowds” she photographs, allowing viewers to feel as if they are a part of the experience.

The exhibition came together in just three weeks, according to Keith. The works of featured artists Radding, Pilar, Coco McPherson, Boris Apple, Stas Ginzburg, and Cash Levi Exum will be available to view for free at the gallery until the end of August.

Purchase of the photography is also available at the Brooklyn Made store.

“They’re There” is on view at the Corner Gallery at Brooklyn Made in City Point, 445 Albee Square West between Fulton and Willoughby streets, until Aug. 31.
