Jayvaughn Pinkston, considered one of the city’s top basketball players in the Class of 2010, will rejoin the Bishop Loughlin boys’ basketball team for its CHSAA Class AA intersectional quarterfinal game against St. Raymond’s on Thursday at St. Francis Prep, league sources have told FiveBoroSports.com.
The 6-foot-5 forward, who was named to the All-CHSAA first team in a vote of league coaches, was ruled academically ineligible on Feb. 16 and has missed the Lions’ last six games.
But Pinkston has shown enough improvement in the classroom to be allowed to play again, just in time for Loughlin’s biggest game of the season, sources said. Bishop Loughlin athletic director Angela Proce and Lions head coach Rudy King could not be reached for comment as of late Monday night.
Bishop Loughlin (15-11) won its first four games without its star, who is being recruited by a host of Big East schools, including UConn, Louisville and St. John’s, but dropped its last two, including a 20-point loss against Xaverian in the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan semifinals on Wednesday.
