Hats off to aspiring Eagle Scout James Ciullo of Troop 396 for lovingly restoring the grounds and pedestal that supports the statue of the Blessed Mother at Resurrection Church as part of his Eagle Service Project. The good Samaritan cleaned, painted, weeded and seeded to spruce up the pedestal that had seen better days.

James received his wings at a candle-lighting ceremony on Aug. 11 at the church and was handed his certificate by assistant scoutmaster Joseph Shovlin. Joseph, a former scout himself, became an assistant scoutmaster about five years ago and has known James since.

“Becoming an Eagle Scout is a great achievement, and I am very proud of him and to have presented him with his wings,” he told O.

Proud mom Patricia Greenwood is thrilled about it too, and she told Standing O, “Becoming an Eagle Scout is hard work and there were times when I didn’t think my son would go through with it, but through all his hard work he persevered and achieved this honor. I am very proud.”

James is currently a freshman at State University of New York at Oneonta.

Standing O can’t wait to give him a shout out when he graduates.
