Public School 255 students polished up on their ABCs as youngsters in the third through fifth grades participated in grade-wide spelling bees. Before a packed auditorium, the students were faced with the challenge of spelling some very difficult words.
First and second place winners were selected from each grade and, after the fifth grade spelling bee, a school-wide bee was held amongst the three first place winners.
Rebecca Glazman of class 4-325 was able to spell the last two words and became the first place winner of the school-wide spelling bee. Steven Gubner of class 5-301 came in second and Agatha Guttierez of class 3-309 came in third.
All participants received a certificate of participation and the winners of each grade received a special certificate of achievement. School-wide winners received a spelling bee certificate as well as a gift certificate to the school’s store.
Literacy Coach Mrs. Reynolds coordinated the spelling bee with the assistance of Mrs. Caiazzo. Principal Linda L. Singer was “thrilled by the great spellers we have in our school.”
