Eric Campbell, the New York Mets eighth round selection out of Boston College in the 2008, has been one of the most consistent players on the team.
For the season, Campbell is second on the team in batting with a .281 average with 32 hits in 114 at bats including six doubles and two home runs. His 14 RBI’s also rank him second on the team. Last week, with his solid play both in the field and at the plate, Campbell helped the Cyclones make up a couple of games in the standing to the league leading Staten Island Yankees.
Manager Edgar Alfonso has nothing but praise for his middle infielder.
“I don’t know where we would be without Campbell,” he said. “He has been one of our most consistent players and I expect good things from him every day.”
While playing for Boston College this year, Campbell batted .306 in 53 games. He finished first on the team in doubles with 18 and multi-RBI games with 12. Campbell was also second on the team with 64 hits and 41 RBI’s. He also belted six home runs for BC.
So far this season Campbell has enjoyed his stay in Brooklyn.
“This has been a great experience for me,” said the Cyclone. ”Coming from Boston I knew what to expect when I got to Brooklyn and it has lived up to my expectations.”
Brooklyn fans, meanwhile, have grown fond of the Connecticut native, who always seems to be in the middle of every rally, and whose consistent play in the field has solidified the infield.
If he can keep up his consistent play for the remainder of the season Campbell could turn out to be the MVP of the 2008 team.
