It was a well deserved “atta’ boy” from the top of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South chain.
With a crew of proud loved ones standing by his side, Police Officer Hiram Riffas of the 70th Precinct, was named Brooklyn South Cop of the Month for all the excellent work he’s done to benefit the residents of Flatbush and Midwood.
Riffas’ mother Michelle was on hand to give him a kiss as Chief Joseph Fox, the commanding officer of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, handed the young officer the “much deserved” award.
Also on hand was Inspector Ralph Monteforte, Riffas’ CO from the 70th Precinct, who described the midnight patrolman as the “epitome of CPR” – the NYPD’s mantra of Courtesy, Professionalism and Respect.
Monteforte said that Riffas was also recently honored as the precinct’s 2008 Cop of the Year.
“We recognized him for several reasons, one of them being the quality of his arrests,” Monteforte explained. “He has many gun arrests and robbery arrests.”
Monteforte also credited Riffas for his “excellent observation skills” and “meticulous paperwork.”
“He is the definition of CPR,” Monteforte said. “Everything he does – whether it’s dealing with the community or taking bad guys off the street he’s extremely professional.”
With his help, the cops in the 70th Precinct have fought to maintain the 13 percent drop in crime they’ve been experiencing for the year, Monteforte said.
