Police are on the lookout for a sticky-fingered straphanger they say pillaged a woman’s backpack at a Prospect Heights subway station on Aug. 1, nabbing cash and a credit card that she used to make numerous illicit purchases.

The 20-year-old victim told police she descended the Fourth Street entrance of the Atlantic Terminal at 2:30 pm, swiped her way past the turnstyle, and placed her wallet in a bag. But by the time she reached the R train’s Bay Ridge-bound platform, the victim realized that her satchel was one wallet lighter — along with $500, credit cards, and her social security card, police said.

Authorities say someone then used the victim’s credit card to make purchases at several stores — including a Midwood pharmacy on Avenue J between E. 14th and E. 15th streets, where surveillance footage captured the suspected swindler, according to a report.

Police describe the suspect as a woman with short black hair, and wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Police ask anyone with information about the crime to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577–8477. Tips can also be submitted by logging onto Crime Stoppers’ website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting to 274637, then entering TIP577. All tips are confidential.
