Cops busted a man for allegedly taking off with a two-wheeler from a bike rental service on Aug. 22.
Police say the 25-year-old suspect was seen riding the bike near E. 55th Street and Avenue N around 3:36 pm, and was later sighted running a red light at Ralph Avenue and Avenue N around 10:10 pm. According to the police report, the suspect legally rented the bike from a station near Fulton Street and Adams Avenue, but did not return it to its station.
Lost and found
A snoopster lifted and discarded a wallet lost in a park on Aug. 26.
The victim told police that she was at the park near Burnett Street and Avenue U around 4 pm when she dropped her bag while riding her bike. Her phone was in the bag, and she used an app to track it to a park near Kings Highway and Avenue M. But when she located the bag, cops say the woman found almost all the items that were inside, except her two credit cards, according to the report. Police say the woman cancelled all cards.
Bank card sweep
Some nogoodnik broke into a car parked on E. 56th Street sometime between Aug. 13 and 24.
Police say the car’s owner left his vehicle near Avenue M around 10 pm, and when he returned to it almost two weeks later on Aug. 24, he found this car’s passenger-side window broken, and about a half dozen of credit and debit cards all missing.
Stop and steal
A crook broke into a storage facility on Ralph Avenue and left with thousands worth of clothing items between Aug. 6 and Aug. 24.
The owner of the items in the storage unit told cops that he last entered the location around 5 pm on Aug. 6 and returned to the unit on Aug. 24 around 6 pm to find his designer watch, belt, jewelry, and several fragrances all gone.
According to the report, the lock to the storage unit showed no damage, nor did the storage room.
Ghost withdrawal
Some sneak stole $500 from a Kimball Street man sometime between Aug. 3 and Aug. 24.
The man, who lives near Avenue S, told officers that he was in possession of his debit card between that time frame when he noticed that someone withdrew the money from a bank near Flatbush and Flatlands avenues.
Blame game
A punk broke into a car parked on Albany Avenue and Avenue H sometime between Aug. 21 and Aug. 23.
The victim told police that he left his car near the intersection around 1 am, and returned to it two days later to find several items missing. Cops say the man did not initially report the missing items because he thought his wife — who also has access to the vehicle — took the items, according to police. Cops say the bandit got away with a debit card, a credit card, and other forms of identification.
Grand steal
A fraudster swindled $165,000 from an Avenue I senior between February and August.
The 80-year-old victim told police that she was contacted by a sweepstakes company informing her that she was a prize recipient of a lottery, but would have to send money to get her reward. Police say that between that time period, she wired more than $165,000 to a person in Costa Rica.
On Aug. 23 she called the presumed company about receiving her winnings, when she was informed the person she was sending money to did not work at the company.
