Two police officers shot and killed a man in Williamsburg on Sunday morning, after authorities claim he mugged two people then got into a shoot-out with the two cops.
Police say the pair responded to several reports of gun-point robberies on Debevoise Avenue between Jackson Street and Maspeth Avenue at around 7:45 am.
There, they saw 42-year-old Jermaine Johnson of Clinton Hill wielding a .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun, who then turned and fired off five shots at the officers, Patrol Borough Brooklyn North assistant chief Jeffrey Maddrey told reporters at the scene.
The officers collectively fired back with 12 to 15 bullets of their own, he claimed, eventually hitting Johnson.
Paramedics then took Johnson to Woodhull Hospital, where he died an hour later, according to a report.
Johnson didn’t hit either officer with his shots, police said.
