Screwed up
Police arrested a 38-year-old who they say tried to stab a man with a screwdriver while stealing his property in the victim’s Richardson Street apartment building on April 13.
The 46-year-old victim told police that he dropped some of his stuff while carrying it up the stairs at his apartment between Graham Avenue and Humboldt Street at 7:20 am. That’s when the opportunistic robber kicked the victim’s property across the floor and swung the screwdriver, barely missing him, according to authorities.
Little alarm
An 8-year-old girl scared off a man who broke into her home on Eagle Street on April 6, police said.
The girl’s older sister told police that she was in the apartment between Provost Street and Mcguiness Boulevard with the little girl at 8:45 pm when the suspect walked in through the unlocked front door.
The man allegedly walked through the living room and was heading towards the kitchen when the little girl saw him and screamed. The 51-year-old ran out the door and was arrested and charged with burglary, police reported.
Family jewels
Someone stole jewelry from a 40-year-old on Humboldt Street woman on April 6 — and she believes her not-so-slick brother-in-law was the culprit.
The victim told police that she was getting ready for work at her house between Engert Avenue and McGuinness Boulevard at 11:45 am when she noticed that her Pandora bracelet was missing. She looked in her jewelry box and found her wedding ring and assorted jewelry gone as well.
Then she remembered that her mother-in-law had told her that money was missing from her apartment, and she realized that her husband’s brother had keys to both of their apartments, she told police. She also told officials that her brother-in-law’s girlfriend had called the previous day asking where they were going. The victim tried to call the brother-in-law but he refused to call her back. He has not been charged with a crime.
A big haul
Someone stole a U-Haul truck from a lot on Meeker Avenue on April 6.
The owner of the lot near Union Avenue told police he noticed the moving truck missing at 6 pm. He had left the truck parked with the keys in it four hours earlier. Police have not found the U-Haul.
Bad party etiquette
The host of a house party on Calyer Street on April 4 learned that he should never go to the pharmacy for his guests and leave them unattended.
The victim told police that he had a party in his apartment between Guernsey and Lorimer streets. At one point, one of his guests asked him to go to the pharmacy and pick up some supplies.
When he woke up the next morning, he found his Rolex watch missing from on top of his dresser where he had left it. He estimated that the watch was worth between $5,000 and $7,000 and gave police the names and numbers of the guests, but no one has been arrested.
Lifted
Someone snatched a young man’s laptop after he left it on the corner of Greenpoint Avenue on April 5.
The 24-year-old man told police that he set his bag on the ground while was waiting outside a liquor store near Manhattan Avenue at 9 pm. When his two friends came out of the store, the victim forgot his bag and walked away.
He realized 45 minutes later that he had forgotten it, but by the time he got back to the store, it was closed. When he went back the next day, the clerk handed him his bag, but the computer was gone.
