The Islanders are coming to Brooklyn, but they can’t still be called Islanders.
Sure, it’s a little known fact that Brooklyn is, for all intents and purposes, part of greater Long Island, but for years residents of its urban center have done everything they could to separate themselves from their suburban appendage. Don’t believe us? Just ask the guys who fought in the Battle of Long Island, which we’ve been calling the Battle of Brooklyn for years (and not just for purposes of alliteration).
With that in mind, we’ve put together a poll to let you decide how we should de-emphasize our Long Islandness when naming our new professional hockey team.
