Indeed, there was a flurry of certificates of appreciation and plaques at the October meeting of the 68th Precinct Community Council, as council President Ilene Sacco and the 68th Precinct’s commanding officer, Deputy Inspector Eric Rodriguez, feted those who gave of their time and money to make the early August event a resounding success.
“Ours is always one of the biggest in the city,” Sacco told the group gathered in the community room at Shore Hill, 9000 Shore Road. “It’s a great show of support for the men and women of the 68th Precinct.”
The way National Night Out unfolds in the area exemplifies, “what Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and the 68th Precinct are all about, police and community,” Rodriguez added. “That day came together great.”
Among those who were honored for their contributions were the Asian Community United Society, Associated Supermarket, Aviator Sports, the Bay Ridge Eagle, Bay Ridge Honda, Josephine Beckmann, BlueCo Energy, Chip Cafiero Rosa Casella, Century 21, Warren Chan, Cinnabon, Costco, Jennifer DeFrank, the Dyker Heights Civic Association, Eaton & Torrenzano, Fidelis Care, the Fifth Avenue BID, Senya Frangipiani, Frank Corigliano Contracting, Dorothy Garuccio, Gino’s Restaurant, Goodfella’s, Harborview Car Service, Health Plus, Ianelli Contracting, Jabour Realty, Arlene Keating, Kelli Kilbride, the Lone Star Bar and Grill, Long’s Wines & Liquors, Lutheran Medical Center, Marathon Bank, the Merchants of Third Avenue, the Nam Knights, Nathan’s, Petland, Sophia Pica, Pilo Arts, Ridgewood Savings Bank, St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Ephrem’s Roman Catholic Church, Dilia Schack, Maureen Stramka, Three Jolly Pigeons, Susan Tirotta, Turqua Restaurant, Uncle Louie G’s, Fran Vella-Marrone, Mary Ann Walsh, David Ziab, and a group of local teens, many of whom had volunteered in the past as members of the St. Anselm’s cadet Girl Scout troop.
