Prince of our hearts: Brooklyn celebrates Purple One’s birthday

The County of Kings needs its Prince!

Brooklyn will celebrate the musical icon eternally known as Prince at four different events during June, his birthday month. The Purple One, born on June 7, 1958, passed away in April of 2016, but we can still honor his legacy, his music, and fabulous style by gathering together to get through this thing called life. Let’s go crazy!

The Prince of charity

The Brooklyn Music School will commemorate the life of Prince at its fund-raising gala “Under the Brooklyn Moon” on Tuesday. The event, a play on the Artist’s song and film “Under the Cherry Moon,” will feature four visual artists creating Prince-inspired artwork, while live musicians play his many hits.

“Under the Brooklyn Moon” at the Brooklyn Historical Society (128 Pierrepont St. at Clinton Street in Brooklyn Heights, underthebrooklynmoon.splashthat.com). June 6 at 6:30 pm. $30.

Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight? How about with councilman Mark Treyger and Borough President Adams? The two Prince-loving pols and New York City Parks will celebrate the pop icon’s birthday on Wednesday, June 7, with a “Prince Dance Party” on the Coney Island Boardwalk. A dee-jay will spin all of the Purple One’s hits, so you can party like it’s 1999.

“Prince Dance Party” at Steeplechase Plaza (W. 19th Street at the Boardwalk in Coney Island). June 7, 6–9 pm. Free.

Extra time in your kiss

Prince was a sexy m———–! And the tribute band Erotic City celebrates the sensual side of the blouse-wearing bad-ass, with a high-energy stage show that plays all of Prince’s hits and B-sides. which should make for the one awesome purple rock show.

Erotic City at Brooklyn Bowl (61 Wythe Ave. between N. 12th and N. 11th streets in Williamsburg, www.brooklynbowl.com). June 13 at 8 pm. $10.

New Power generation

It is never too early to introduce your kids to the music of Prince — though you might want to gloss over some the lyrics in “Sexy M.F.” And “Darling Nikki.” Also “Cream.” And “Jack U Off.” Anyway, you can let the music group Rock and Roll Playhouse worry about the words — the house band and four guest artists will play kid-friendly Prince songs at this free outdoor concert in Industry City.

Rock and Roll Playhouse presents the Music of Prince at Industry City Courtyard 1/2 (enter at Second Avenue between 36th and 37th streets in Sunset Park, www.icsummerspree.com). June 21 at 6:30 pm. Free.
