Celebrate Brooklyn! Continues to pack in the crowds at the Prospect Park Bandshell.
July 5 at 7 p.m. brings to the stage Michael Stuart, William Cepeda’s Grupo Esencia and Zemog El Gallo Bueno as part of the Bud Light Latin Music Series. With hints of reggaetón and other urban strains incorporated into his classic New York sound, the salsero Michael Stuart has a style all his own. William Cepeda and his Grupo Esencia bring to the evening a set of traditional Puerto Rican roots music, joined by special guest Angel Luis Torrullas, “King of the Plena.”
July 10 at 7:30 p.m. turns the stage over to reggae icon Freddie McGregor. Opening the evening will be the high-energy NYC-based company Soul Steps, which aims to do for step dancing what Savion Glover has done for tap: revitalize an authentic dance style for a new generation.
On July 11 at 7 p.m. Celebrate Brooklyn! & LAMC present Brazilian Girls on a bill with Miranda! and Ticklah in another session of the Bud Light Latin Music Series Not actually Brazilian — but very possibly the sexiest band alive — Brazilian Girls will bring to this hometown gig their mix of bossa nova, jazz, rock, and electro beats.
Argentine pop sensations Miranda! bring the Buenos Aires dance underground to the party, while Brooklyn’s own Ticklah, offers a thick reggae beat. DJ Papichulo will spin between sets. There will also be a Fresa Salvaje after-party at Studio B in Brooklyn.
July 12 at 7:30 p.m. offers the double bill of Beth Orton and Matt Munisteri. Since her groundbreaking 1996 debut, Trailer Park, the maverick UK singer-songwriter Orton has continued to combine folk with trip hop in a critically acclaimed body of work. Brooklyn native Matt Munisteri and his band romp through tunes that mesh jazz, rock. and cabaret.
