A teen is in critical condition after he was shot multiple times in Crown Heights on Thursday evening.
At just before 5 pm on Sept. 30, the NYPD responded to several calls regarding a shooting at 1593 Prospect Place. Upon their arrival, officers found a 19-year-old man had been shot in the head and buttocks.
A spokesperson for the NYPD said the victim was standing in a group outside the location when the suspect, described by police as a Black man wearing all black clothing, approached and fired into the group. Six shell casings were recovered at the scene.
The victim was rushed to Brookdale Hospital where he is in critical condition. The suspect remains at large.
No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing, according to the NYPD.
The 77th precinct encompassing Crown Heights has recorded 37 shooting incidents so far in 2021 according to NYPD data, a decrease of 14 percent compared to the same time period last year, when 43 shootings had already been recorded. The 77th is among the most gun violence-plagued precincts in New York, but shootings have continued to decrease from their high point during the summer of 2020.
Thursday’s shooting came just one day after two other teens were shot dead in separate incidents across the borough Wednesday night, and two days after a 16-year-old was gunned down outside a Brooklyn NYCHA complex.
