The Learning About Multimedia Project (LAMP) will participate in the first-ever Internet Week New York with Checking the Monitor: A Forum on Internet Safety, June 4 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Grand Army Plaza branch of the Brooklyn Public Library in Park Slope.
According to a recent survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation, 65 percent of parents closely monitor their children’s internet use, and 18 percent believe they should monitor internet usage more closely than they do now.
However, there is much debate over appropriate methods of monitoring a child’s Internet activities.
In this forum hosted by the LAMP as part of Internet Week New York, media and law enforcement professionals will come together to discuss issues in internet safety such as current internet regulations and controls, censorship, how children use search engines, games and social networking sites, positives and negatives of raising kids in a digital age, and more.
