Break-in news

A burglar swiped a pocketbook from the entrance to a Fourth Avenue residence on Jan. 5, cops said.

The victim left her purse in the entryway to her apartment between Sackett and Degraw streets and went for a three-hour stroll from 9 am to noon, according to a report.

When she returned she found the door open and the bag and its contents — including her $350 iPad Mini and driver’s license — vanished, a report says. Upon further inspection she found the door had a faulty lock, police said.

Don’t be a tool

A raider ransacked a Fourth Avenue construction site sometime between Jan. 3 and 5, making off with thousands of dollars worth of tools, according to a report.

Police said sometime between 4:30 pm on Jan. 3 and 7:15 am on Jan. 5 the prowler crept into the building between Sackett and Degraw streets and accessed the third-floor site through a faulty door and an unlocked floor hatch leading to the basement.

The bandit stole an assortment of drills and other tools worth nearly $5,000, cops said.

Uneasy chair

A Park Slope teen tossed a chair at a woman in a Ninth Street apartment on Jan. 6, according to the authorities.

An altercation at the 16-year-old’s residence between Fourth and Fifth avenues turned violent when he hucked the furniture into her stomach, cops said.

The teen then fled, leaving his victim uninjured, a report says.

Sticky fingers

A sneak swiped a woman’s purse from a barbecue joint on Union Street on Jan. 10, according to police.

The woman was at the eatery between Third and Fourth avenues around midnight when she got up to pay her bill, leaving her purse on the back of her chair, a report says.

When she returned, she found the thief had absconded with the bag. The purse, worth $30, contained a $300 Panasonic camera, $100 worth of makeup, and a pair of $20 headphones, cops said.

Exercise caution

A scoundrel looted the locker of a man exercising at a gym on 15th Street on Jan. 6, law enforcement officials said.

The victim placed his belongings in a locker at the gym between Seventh and Eighth avenues, but while he was breaking a sweat, the thief swiped his Samsung Galaxy 2 phone and $240 in cash, according to a report.

When he thought about the matter at length, the man recalled that he had not actually used a lock to secure the goods, cops said.

An employee later found the man’s wallet, emptied of its contents, sitting in front of the building, according to police.
