Talk about a star-spangled tribute!

PS 206 students celebrated Veteran’s Day with a special recital of the Pledge of Allegiance, patriotic poems, and a medly of classic American songs during an hour-long tribute concert attended by local vets and active-duty members of the Army and Marine Corps.

Assistant Principal Randy Nelson said the annual event at the Sheepshead Bay school teaches students valuable lessons.

“It’s important for our students to show veterans that they’re part of the community,” said Nelson. “And we want our students to understand [the sacrifices of veterans] in our neighborhoods who supported our country.”

PS 206’s sense of duty isn’t a one-and-done deal, however.

Nelson said students at the school on Gravesend Neck Road make holiday greeting cards for veterans, bring them meals, and sometimes take trips to visit vets at area hospitals over the course of the schoolyear.

“The kids really learn to appreciate it,” Nelson said.
