Sheepshead Bay’s got talent.
PS 52 students and teachers wowed parents with a bevy of jaw-dropping song and dance routines — among them a Broadway ditty performed by Principal Ilene Altschul and her staff — at the Nostrand Avenue school’s sold-out talent show on Dec. 8 and 9.
Approximately 120 students belted out classic songs, played musical instruments such as the piano, recorder and drums, and gave spirited hip-hop and ballet performances at the school’s third annual arts showcase, according to event organizer Barbara Warner.
“Everyone supported all the kids, no matter what they performed,” said Warner, PS 52’s parent coordinator. “The show was great.”
Warner said PS 52 began hosting the fundraiser in 2008 as a way to offset school budget cuts. Proceeds from the two shows, which charged $5 per ticket and drew crowds of nearly 300 people, go towards arts and other programs that need extra funding, Warner said.
Parents said seeing their children perform was well worth the cost of admission.
“It was great that Erika had the confidence to get up there in front of a big audience,” Michelle Stockley said of her 7-year-old second-grader, who covered pop star Selena Gomez’s hit single “Love You Like a Love Song.”
“She went right up there and gave it her all,” Stockley said. “I’m so proud of her.”
