Public school 279 brings ‘Bye, Bye Birdie’ to a Brooklyn stage

The Great White Way came to Brooklyn when stage-struck drama students at Public School 279 presented a rollicking adaptation of the Tony Award winning musical satire, “Bye Bye Birdie.’

The starry-eyed crew transformed the auditorium of the school, 1070 East 104th Street, into a song and dance emporium, complete with skits and ditties, as they shared the spotlight and wowed the crowd with their showmanship.

The story recounts the trials of agent and songwriter Albert Peterson, who finds himself in trouble when hip-thrusting rock and roll superstar Conrad Birdie, from Allentown, Pennsylvania is drafted into the army.
