Ready to respond to a disaster

New York City’s top crisis manager came to Brooklyn to personally congratulate graduates for completing a disaster preparedness course, which has garnered the borough eight new teams to respond to unforeseen disasters.

Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Commissioner Joseph Bruno joined Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta and Deputy Mayor Edward Skyler for a graduation ceremony at FDNY Headquarters, 9 MetroTech, which gilded 159 volunteers with Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) qualifications.

The graduates were presented achievement certificates for their participation in an extensive course, taught by OEM instructors and furnishing them with the skills needed to respond to urgent situations in their neighborhoods.

The teams are among other teams being trained by OEM, in every community district across the city, to mobilize official groups of civilians in the event of major disasters and emergencies.
