Real estate roundtable – Luncheon slated this month

Janette Sadik-Khan, commissioner for the New York City Department of Transportation, will be among the speakers at the next quarterly Brooklyn Real Estate Roundtable Luncheon, August 5.

The event will be held at the Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont Street (corner of Clinton Street), in Brooklyn Heights. Networking will begin at 12 p.m. and the luncheon and seated program at 12:30 p.m. All proceeds from the real estate group’s quarterly luncheons benefit the Brooklyn Historical Society.

Sadik-Khan will highlight the DOT’s initiatives in Brooklyn from sustainable streets and traffic safety, to traffic patterns, bicycle paths, and congestion pricing. The DOT has recently announced a number of initiatives to reclaim the streets of New York City for pedestrians and improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers.

These initiatives include Summer Space, which closes three blocks of Montague Street to traffic every Sunday in July; the creation of a public esplanade on Broadway from 42nd Street to Herald Square; Summer Streets, which will temporarily open a 6.9 mile car-free route from the Brooklyn Bridge to 72nd Street; and the New York City Plaza program, which will transform underused street space into public plazas.

Other speakers at the luncheon will be:

· Jed Walentas, President, Two Trees Management, who will discuss the Court House project and the firm’s experience in the residential rental market;

· Sean Hennessey, CEO, Lodging Advisors LLC, who will analyze the current hotel climate in Brooklyn and what to expect in the coming years; and,

· Katie Dixon, director of Planning and Development at the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, who will review the current and future development plans within the BAM cultural district.

The third session of the Brooklyn Real Estate Roundtable is being supported by Design Trust for Public Space, a firm that has partnered with the Grand Army Plaza Coalition to launch an international ideas competition, Reinventing Grand Army Plaza.
