Fort Hamilton celebrated the Army’s 234th birthday and Flag Day at the community club at Ft. Hamilton Army Base, 206 Sheridan Loop, Ft. Hamilton. The United States Army was established more than 200 years ago to defend the nation, from the Revolutionary War to the Global War on Terror, soldiers have maintained a deep commitment to Army core values, beliefs and culture.
As the renewal of the family covenant approaches, the birthday not only honored America’s soldiers, but also their families and Department of the Army civilians who are accomplishing excellence here and abroad as their sacrifices to preserve America’s way of life remain unforgotten.
Led by Master of Ceremonies, 1st Sgt. Dale Lee and the NCOs of Fort Hamilton, the event drew more than 100 spectators, which included Soldiers, family members, DA civilians, contractors and local dignitaries such as State Senator Marty Golden and Brooklyn Borough President representative Leslie Lewis.
“We are all family, especially on this day,” commented guest speaker Command Sgt. Maj. Sylvia Laughlin as she asked representatives of every branch of the small but close−knit Fort Hamilton community to join her. She called an officer, an enlisted, a spouse, a child, a DA civilian, a contractor and a community leader to join hands as one to signify the long−lasting bond of friendship, commitment and diversity.
