Remembering our military men and women

The members of The American Legion from Flatlands post-391 honored military men and women who lost their lives this past year, by marching to a memorial service in Gerritsen Beach on Oct. 10.

The parade, which started at Amici’s Cafe, was led by 93-year-old American Legion member Joseph Saggo. The parade continued along Gerristen Avenue until it reached St. James Lutheran Church, where the patriotic memorial service took place.

“We keep it in mind that our country is great and we honor those who have fought for us,” said Rev. Elizabeth Nebrasky of St. James Lutheran Church. “The community needs to honor those who fought for our country.”

The Kings County Headquarters American Legion Band played during the parade and the memorial service, which finished off with a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
