Three more Park Slopers have been the victim of — and actually reported! — identity theft.
In the first case, a Union Street man told cops on Jan. 23 that someone rang up $2,549.79 after getting a Discover card in his name.
On Jan. 25, a 26-year-old Second Street woman told cops that someone had opened accounts at Lowe’s, Home Depot and Kohl’s stores in her name and run up close to $5,000 in charges.
And on the same day, a Plaza Street West woman told cops that someone used her debit card to buy $2,594 in equipment at the Apple store in Manhattan.
In all three cases, Det. Tony Shy — the precinct’s point person on identity theft — is investigating.
The sudden uptick in ID theft reports comes a week after The Brooklyn Paper reported that local authorities were frustrated that identity theft victims were apparently satisfied to complain about the crimes on several Web sites, but not actually report such crimes to the police.
