Enough with the potholes!
That’s what residents told the mayor’s representative at last week’s meeting of the Mill Basin Civic Association.
“The roads are horrible on the Belt from Rockaway to Flatbush Avenue,” said Connie Lenzo.
Lenzo and her husband, Joe, often drive from their East 53rd Street home to Cross Bay Boulevard to visit their daughter. Along the way, they have to steer clear of dangerous potholes.
“Someone is going to get hurt or there’s going to be damage to cars,” Lenzo said.
Charles Glover, a rep for Mayor Michael Bloomberg, encouraged residents to call 311 to report dangerous road conditions.
“If no one calls, we don’t know there is an issue to be addressed,” Glover said.
He noted that the city is planning to reconstruct several bridges on the Belt Parkway, including the Mill Basin Bridge.
“They’re going to be doing a total remodeling of all the bridges on the Belt starting in a couple of weeks, a couple of months,” he said.
Mill Basin Civic President Paul Curiale tried to appease frustrated residents, saying, “They’re doing our bridge first.”
“In 2013,” state Assemblyman Alan Maisel chimed in.
With such a long wait, “They should fix the potholes first,” he continued.
According to city documents, the project will begin in October 2010 and offer an increase in lane width and new safety shoulders.
