It was a night to remember.
Ridgites headed to the 69th Street Pier on the night of Sept. 11 to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people. An attendee described the event — which featured a candlelight vigil, a slew of speakers, and interfaith prayers — as a solemn one.
“It was very moving and very respectful,” said Fred Trabulsi, a Bay Ridge resident.
First responders joined various religious representatives to lead prayers and share stories of the victim’s lives. Attendees sang “God Bless America,” “Let There be Peace on Earth” and “The Star-Spangled Banner” before watching a 21-gun salute.
Trabulsi said that this year’s event seemed more meaningful than the two others he has attended at the pier in years’ past since the 2001 attacks.
“I think this was probably a little bit increased solemnity,” he said. “There seemed to be more of a deeper respect, I think. I just had the feeling that it was a little more meaningful for some reason.”
