Sheepshead Bay has no treble finding talent!
More than 100 residents watched dozens of performers 5 to 84 years old sing and play music at the Sheepshead Bay Library’s Rising Star talent showcase on May 9.
Nearly 30 residents performed at the all-day event, which featured pop, jazz, and classical music. The showcase was a great way to brighten up the community — and shine a spotlight on locals with musical talent, according to an organizer.
“We want to promote talented people in the community,” said Svetlana Negrimovskaya, who works at the library, adding that the performances were incredibly diverse. “It represented different talents and different cultures.”
Singers weren’t rated, and there were no winners, but one parent said her child felt like a real star after the performance.
“He feels like, ‘Oh mom, I am so famous,’ ” said Zhanat Ryspaeva, whose son Benjamin Koyfman, played guitar.
Between sets, performers and attendees could pause the music and join in the festivities outside the library — a carnival held in celebration of the Brooklyn Public Library’s third-annual Bike the Branches event. Kids could jump rope or get their face painted as they watched bikers cruise by the local branch.
Adult performers received a photo album for their participation and kids received an inflatable water toy.
Negrimovskaya said all the performers finished on a high note — and she said she has high hopes for their futures.
“[Use] their special talents to become celebrities in the community,” she said.
