Robber caught

A teenage thug with a rap sheet as long as his arm was arrested yet again after robbing a candy store on Havemeyer Street on Jan. 22, cops said.

The 19-year-old suspect was arrested for the third time this year for robbing the store, which is located between South First and South Second streets.

According to police, the suspect pointed a silver handgun at the store clerk’s chest and demanded money at 10:30 pm.

He got $198 from the man and then fled in a 2004 Acura. But he didn’t get far. At 11 pm, cops spotted the car at the corner of Metropolitan and Union avenues, and made the arrest.

The robbery rap marks the seventh time the suspect has been arrested since May 2007. He had also been arrested the day before, according to the report.

Whiskey bandit

A thief with good taste in booze broke into an apartment on South Fourth Street on Jan. 28, making off with two laptops, two digital cameras, $300 and a bottle of Evan Williams bourbon.

The victims, who live between Keap and Rodney streets, told the cops they were at work between 10 am and 5:30 pm on Jan. 28 and when they returned home their stuff was gone.

The report valued the laptops and cameras at $2,000, but assigned no value to the whiskey.

Fugetaboutit

Cops caught a burglar trying to break into a business with an unusual name on Jan. 21.

Police arrested the 38-year-old, gray-haired suspect after a witness reported that someone was standing at the basement door of the building at 272 Grand St. trying to jimmy the lock.

When the cops arrived at Fugetaboutit, the shop located between Roebling and Havemeyer streets, the bungling burglar was still fumbling with the lock. The suspect ran away upon spotting the cops, who quickly caught up to him.

Police say the perp admitted, “I was trying to break into that building,” and was charged with attempted burglary and possession of burglar’s tools.

Wants food

Cops are looking for an armed bandit who smells like General Tso’s beloved dish.

On Jan. 22, a thug toting a black handgun stuck up a Chinese restaurant on Humboldt Street between Moore and Seigel streets.

Cops say the man came into the restaurant at 10:10 pm, stuck a gun through the service window and said, “Gimme the money and gimme the food.”

According to the clerk who reported the crime, the robber then reached behind the counter and grabbed an unknown amount of cash and an unknown amount of food.
