Robberies up in Bensonhurst – Crimes up almost 24 percent

If it weren’t for all the robberies, Bensonhurst would be almost crime-free.

Those were the sobering facts members of the 62nd Precinct Community Council learned last week at their monthly meeting.

According to recently released NYPD CompStat statistics, the precinct, which represents Bensonhurst and Bath Beach, has seen a nearly 24 percent increase in robberies so far this year.

The number of robberies in the command has jumped by 200 percent in the last month, from nine in mid-March to mid-April last year to 27 this year.

But that’s the only felony crime in the 62nd Precinct tracked by the NYPD CompStat system that has seen an increase.

Statistics show that overall felony crime is down 8.4 percent for the year, and by 13 percent in the last 28-day period, as of April 13.

Officials at the 62nd Precinct said that the number of burglaries in the command have fallen by nearly 22 percent, from 129 to 101.
