Rockin’ in Carroll Park – Nabe concert series returns

The Carroll Park Concert Series is back for summer 2008.

This delightful series of free concerts, featuring bands suitable for the whole family, will kick off its season and celebrate the end of the school year with a very special performance by Brooklyn’s own AudraRox at 4 p.m., June 21.

Revived by local mom of two, Simmi Degnemark, and aided by a team of other local volunteer moms, the Carroll Park Concert Series will provide multiple enjoyable afternoons of kid-friendly entertainment in the community’s own backyard.

With the series in jeopardy after last year’s organizer moved out of state, Degnemark agreed to tackle the project. She is determined to keep this burgeoning community tradition alive for the benefit of all the kids (and grown-ups) in the neighborhood.

You can check out AudraRox doing their rockin’ bluegrass tune, “Hope my Mama Says YES!” on Noggin’s Jack’s Big Music Show and look for them on Sesame Street season #39 & #40.

The first concert will be a part of “Make Music New York,” a live, free musical celebration across the city that takes place each June 21, the longest day of the year and the first day of summer. On that day, public space throughout the five boroughs — sidewalks, parks, community gardens, and more — will host live, outdoor musical performances. Carroll Park will be a part of this ambitious project.

Future concerts are scheduled for July 9, July 23, August 6, and August 20 at Carroll Park, Smith & President streets in Carroll Gardens. All concerts start at 4 p.m.
