Now that’s a rock show!
Two classes of special-needs students from PS 255 entertained parents, friends and residents of a local senior center with covers of tunes by Justin Beiber, Cher and other pop stars at the Sheepshead Bay school’s first Rock-n-Roll show on Jan. 24.
The concert was staged in the E. 17th Street school’s auditorium, and drew roughly two dozen residents from the nearby Council Center for Senior Citizens, according to Miriam Rankin, a PS 255 art teacher who organized the event.
“The place was rocking,” said Rankin. “The students are such talented dancers, singers and entertainers.”
Rankin said the show also gave the 7- to 10-year-old students the all-important chance to perform in front of their peers.
“In the special-needs population, it’s very important for them to be admired and accepted,” said Rankin, who’s planning to turn the concert into an annual tradition. “It was a wonderful way to bolster their egos.”
PS 255 Assistant Principal Susan Ehrlich said the concert was a smash hit.
“Everyone had a wonderful time,” she said. “The students’ talents and abilities really shined through.”
