Hollywood on the East River will double in size, city officials cheered this week.
Steiner Studios — which now occupies 15 acres in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard — will expand into a nearly 300,000-square-foot, seven-story building inside the yard’s Washington Avenue boundary.
The studio — which has hosted shoots for both the blockbuster “Spider-Man 3” and the critically acclaimed “Inside Man” — has been a success since it opened in November 2004, luring at least a dozen new televisions shows and films to the Big Apple.
It has also gained traction as a hip event space, hosting annual parties (one notable affair recently featured scantily clad erotic dancers), not to mention Marty Markowitz’s 2007 State of the Borough address.
Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff said the expansion would create 550 new jobs.
