The O’Dovovan Rossa Society will host an evening in memory of committed Irish Republican and Socialist, Seamus Costello, at Rocky Sullivan’s Pub, corner of Dwight Street & Van Dyke Street in Red Hook.
Costello, born in Bray, County Wicklow in 1939, joined the republican movement at 16, and at 17 commanded an active service unit in South Derry. He was imprisoned and later interned without trial, and upon his release became full time political organizer, developing a strong link with every conceivable organization in his native Wicklow, which dealt with the interests of the working class.
Best remembered for the founding of the Irish Republican Socialist Party and the Irish National Liberation Army, Costello was assassinated by his former comrades in the Official IRA in 1977.
Musician and songwriter Ray Collins, who knew Costello, will speak and perform songs, and there will be a short film screening and sharing of some of Connelly’s key speeches.
