A runner in Saturday’s Brooklyn Half Marathon has died after collapsing at the finish line.
The man, 31, whose name has not been released, collapsed on the Coney Island Boardwalk moments after completing the 13.1-mile course. He was picked up by an ambulance at 9:09 am and taken to Coney Island Hospital, fire officials said. He passed at the hospital, according to the fire department.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of a participant following the 2014 NYRR Brooklyn Half,” the New York Road Runners said in a statement on its Facebook page, “Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and those close to him.”
The athlete died of a heart attack, according to FDNY.
