The borough’s Finest and Bravest were among the cream of the crime-fighting crop honored for “keeping Brooklyn safe” during a Law Enforcement Appreciation breakfast, presented by District Attorney Charles Hynes.
The 18th annual repast, held at Brooklyn Law School, 205 State Street, honored 22 individuals from the New York Police and Fire departments, the District Attorney’s Office and New York State Criminal Court, who have risked personal safety to ensure dangerous criminals are taken off the street.
The awardees were: Officer Russell Timoshenko, who was killed in the line of duty on July 9, 2007 and his partner Officer Herman Yan, 71st Precinct; Lt. David Glassberg, Juvenile Robbery Intervention Program, Police Service Area (PSA) 2; Det. Walter Brant, Community Affairs, PSA 2; Court Officer Gavin Nichols, Criminal Court; Det. Angel Cruz, NYPD Transit District 33; Supervising Fire Marshal Bernard Santangelo, Bureau of Fire Investigation, South Command; Supervising Det. Investigator Shaun Winter, District Attorney’s Office; Officers Devin Long and Ashland Menelas, 67th Precinct; Officers Keisha Durant and Andriy Ryabinin, 63rd Precinct; Officers Rory Mangra and Erik Merizalde, 78th Precinct; Officer Avia Hunt, 68th Precinct; Officers Raul Muniz and Rahim Morris, 83rd Precinct; Officer Samuel Sexton, 79th Precinct; Dets. Michael Corvi, Frank Sarrica and Hassan Elci, Detectives Endowment Association; and Det. Thomas Howell, District Attorney Office Squad.
