Saint Francis of Assisi: A Brooklyn canine’s best friend

The borough’s emerald empire provided a grassy altar for four-legged parishioners as the annual blessing of the animals got underway at Prospect Park.

The benediction – in honor of St. Francis of Assisi – drew members of the Fellowship for the Interests of Dogs and their Owners (FIDO) to the Picnic House where Rev. Daniel Murphy, of nearby St. Saviour’s Church, presided over the rites.

The bestial congregation included an assortment of dogs, cats, bids and other lovable critters.

St. Francis is the patron saint of animals.
