Saying goodbye to the Ridge!

It is this Bay Ridge reporter’s last day at the helm of Bay Ridge Nights. It sure has been a wild ride — and we are going out with a bang! Once more, here is the undisputed, number one guide to nightlife in Bay Ridge — and as always, it’s a good one!

My days as a nightlife columnist are not the only thing ending this week — the last installment of this year’s Summer Stroll (Third Avenue between 80th and 90th streets) happens on Friday from 6 pm to 10 pm. Summer is not yet over, but this means its days are numbered — so get out into the avenue and enjoy it while you can!

This next show is heaven-sent! On Friday night, Schnitzel Haus (7319 Fifth Ave. between 73rd and 74th streets) will showcase singer-songwriter Jeffrey Folmer, who stars each year in a Philadelphia production of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and has opened for Hall & Oates. The holy guitar-strummer will perform his original tunes from 7 pm to 10 pm.

On Saturday afternoon, you can catch a local production of William Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar.” The Act-Out! company will perform the Bard’s 417-year-old tale of power hungry Romans at the Narrows Botanical Garden (Shore Road between 71st Street and MacKay Place) at 7 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

And if there is one thing I have learned in my time writing Bay Ridge Nights, it’s that the folks at the Wicked Monk (9510 Third Ave. between 95th and 96th streets) know how to party. These devoted revelers bring in bands from around the tri-state area on Saturday nights, and this week they have summoned Jersey Shore’s most electric cover band, Tragic Remedy. The band will make their Wicked Monk debut at 11 pm, and promises to make you dance your butt off with classic soul, hair-metal, and pop-punk all night long.
