On Sunday, Feb. 3, the New York Giants and New England Patriots will be facing off in Phoenix, Ariz. in Super Bowl XLII. Here in Brooklyn, however, there will be an equally important competition: Who’s having the best Super Bowl Party?
While plenty of folks spend Super Sunday on a pal’s couch swigging beer and shoveling up nachos (see recipe on page 8), some Brooklyn bars are stepping it up this year with high-definition televisions, all-you-can-eat buffets, drink specials and more.

Roxbury

This Greenpoint newcomer — open for only three months — is going to have one of the biggest Super Bowl parties in North Brooklyn. In addition to a full menu of comfort food like macaroni and cheese, chicken wings, burgers and Kobe beef hot dogs, the bar will be unveiling its new signature drink: the Red Star. Made from vodka, rum, strawberry liqueur and a mix of secret ingredients, the drink sounds strong — but you won’t need double vision to catch the game; Red Star has 15 42-inch televisions showing the game in HD. Add the bar’s suped-up sound system to the mix, and even the folks in the University of Phoenix stadium won’t have a better experience.

DUMBO might be known for its artsy side, but neighborhood stalwart Water Street Restaurant is planning its first-ever Super Bowl party that will show off just how sporting the nabe can be. With half-priced beer and a menu of reduced-price appetizers — expect chicken fingers, French fries and the ubiquitous Buffalo wings — and two floors of festivities, including two eight-foot television screens and a live DJ, this pub’s party is guaranteed to please.

Brazen Head
A good game of football always calls for good beer to accompany it. Quench your thirst for both at Brazen Head’s party in Cobble Hill, where all beers, including the hand-pulled, cask-conditioned ales, are going for $4 per pint. The game will be shown on four televisions, and chicken wings and other snacks will be on the house. Whether you’re there for the game or there for the beer, just be there.

With the game showing on six flat-screen televisions and an 8-by-6-foot projector, The Lighthouse Tavern’s party in Park Slope is definitely all about watching the game. Revelers wearing a Giants jersey can partake of $2 shots during the game, while everyone else can score $2 Coors Light.
