Someone is playing out of tune at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music on Seventh Avenue — which was robbed of $1,400 worth of student violins, cops said this week.
It’s unclear when the crime occurred, but it wasn’t noticed until April 20, police said.
But what is known is that four violins — a Meisel, a Stunal, a Geiman and a Lorenz, each valued at $350 — were taken.
“It’s a mystery,” said Dorothy Savitch, a school director. “We rented them last fall for our scholarship program and when we needed to return them, we could only account for two of the six.”
Savitch said there were never any signs of a break-in at the school, which commands the corner of Lincoln Place in a mansion befitting its lofty purpose as an academy for young Mozarts and Shostakoviches.
Cops had no leads, either, but The Brooklyn Paper thought it would be nice if some big music lover cut a check to the school.
