Editor’s Note: The following letters are in response to “Questions loom about Bam’s blood ties,” by Shavana Abruzzo’s “A Britisher’s View,” 7-3 issue.
To The Editor:
While you are entitled to your opinion, Shavana Abruzzo, you might want to refrain from referring to Africans as “savage,” calling Islam’s rising popularity in Africa a “grim fact,” and blaming Mau-Mau resistance fighters to bringing Kenya to its knees.
I was, in short, shocked and disgusted by both the terminology that you used and the ideas you espoused. “Soaked in the blood of tribal warfare,” and equating Afro-centrism with zealots and “nuts,” I mean, are you serious? Tell me, Bwana, did you write press releases for King Leopold?
I’m sure that you would feel better in a world without all this “Muslim disorder,” a world where British Christians would just take charge and show everyone the best way to live; unfortunately, for you, that era has passed.
Good luck to you! I hope that you can find some comfort in the fact that the aftermath of colonialism is still adversely effecting many impoverished regions of the world.
