Shooting on Election Day

A shooting occurred in mid-afternoon in Williamsburg, steps from a polling site where Councilmember Diana Reyna was encouraging registered voters to reelect her.

At 2:30 p.m., police discovered a Hispanic male, 39, shot near the corner of Lorimer and Ten Eyck Street, while driving his vehicle after hearing a 911 call alerting them of the crime.

Police arrived at the scene and cordoned off a two-block area for several hours while detectives asked questions of witnesses and an NYPD helicopter surveyed the area.The victim was taken to Woodhull Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to an NYPD press officer, the suspect was in another vehicle, drove up to the car and shot the victim.The victim’s family has not been notified and as of November 4, his name has not been released.The suspect is still at large.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the NYPD press office did not have any further information as to what instigated the shooting.

Two sedans parked on Ten Eyck Street were dented after impact, though NYPD officers were still investigating to determine if the vehicular damage was related to the shooting.
