Shot in leg

A 27-year-old man was shot in the leg during a violent exchange on Third Avenue.

Cops were told that the victim and an unidentified man were arguing near Warren Street at about 7 p.m. on November 17 when the suspect pulled a gun and let loose a round.

The bullet ripped right into the victim’s thigh, officials said.

He was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center for treatment a short time later.

The gunman got away, said police, who did not disclose what the two men were arguing about.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to come forward.

Calls can be made to the 78th Precinct at (718) 636-6411. All calls will be kept confidential.

An area resident was thrown against a wall and robbed of his iPhone as he walked down 11th Street, officials said last week.

Cops from the 78th Precinct said they arrested one of the two men allegedly responsible for the 3:50 p.m. heist on November 18.

The victim said that he was walking between Seventh and Eighth Avenues that afternoon when Helmer Cruz, 17, and another man allegedly surrounded him and slammed him into a nearby wall.

“Give us what we want,” Cruz demanded as the victim was forced to hand over his pricey phone, officials allege.

The two thieves then ran off, leaving the victim unharmed.

Cops reportedly caught up with Cruz a short time later, charging him with robbery in the second degree, grand larceny and petit larceny.

This is one family who didn’t have anything nice to say to each other this Thanksgiving.

A 54-year-old man, his son and his son’s male lover were all arrested last week following a three-way attack that stemmed from the Atlantic Center Mall to an apartment on St. Mark’s Place.

Officials allege that Edwin Ortiz Jr., 28, and his boyfriend Miguel Colon, 24, were both taken into custody on November 14 following an early morning squabble at 139 Flatbush Avenue.

According to prosecutors, the two men were arguing inside the mall when Colon swiped a phone from Ortiz’s hand. Ortiz reportedly chased Colon, striking him in the back with an umbrella, police alleged.

Cops charged Ortiz with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and attempted assault, officials said. Colon was charged with petit larceny.

But the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, officials soon found out.

Two days after Ortiz and his lover were arrested, his father, Edwin Ortiz, Sr., allegedly struck Colon in the leg with a metal pipe during a scrape inside a St. Mark’s Place apartment between Third and Fourth Avenues.

The attack took place at 10:30 a.m. following a disagreement between the two men, officials alleged.

Colon suffered some soreness and bruising to his leg, but was otherwise uninjured.

Edwin Ortiz, Sr. was charged with assault in the third degree, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.

An 18-year-old was arrested last week on charges that he allegedly palmed his teacher’s credit cards.

Officials said that Jeffrey Mercado reportedly lifted the credit cards from his teacher’s wallet inside a Seventh Avenue high school back on October 27. The wallet was sitting in the teacher’s classroom at the time.

But Mercado underestimated his teacher’s investigative skills, officials said.

Police said that when she went to cancel her cards, she was told that an attempt had just been made to use her Discover card at a McDonald’s on Canal Street.

The woman told police, who recovered the surveillance footage from the restaurant. They showed the footage to the teacher, who spotted Mercado allegedly making a purchase at the exact same time the credit card had been used.

Mercado was taken into custody earlier this week, charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny, officials said.

A gun-toting gamer is being sought for raiding a Seventh Avenue video game store last week.

Workers at the GameStop near Carroll Street said that the thief barreled in at 11 a.m. on November 13 and followed a worker to a back storage room.

He then pulled out his weapon, demanding an XBox system and a few games.

The thief ultimately ran off with the XBox, several other game consoles, a portable game player, $600 in receipts and the new war game “Call of Duty.”

Police said that he threatened to shoot the worker if he didn’t wait fifteen minutes to alert authorities.

Cops are looking for a would-be thief who not only stole a 40-year-old man’s heart, but his wallet as well.

The victim, a resident of Fifth Avenue, said that he met his male friend at a Chinatown bar on the night of November 11.

The two became acquainted as the night drew on and the suspect asked him if he could give him a lift home.

After dropping him off, he asked to come inside to use the bathroom, but ultimately stayed.

A few hours later he left, with his victim’s wallet and credit card, officials were told.

Adding insult to injury, the thief called his victim to tell him what he had stolen.

Cops were hoping to question the conniving Casanova as this paper went to press.
