In preparation for 15,000 Brooklynites getting together for the borough’s largest fundraising walk and cancer event, October 19, “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” will hold a Team-Leader kick off August 12.
“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer,” a non-competitive walk that takes place in Prospect Park, will happen in thousands of cities and towns across the United States and teams of walkers will have the support of their co-workers, family and friends, as each walker tries to raise as much money as they can in August through October.
On the morning of the walk, each walker turns in their funds at registration, and then, led by survivors and dancing to music, the walk begins at 11 a.m.
It’s fun, and as lively or low-key as you want it to be. There are lots of children and families, music from the stage and fun for kids. There’s always a special tent to honor breast cancer survivors.
Anyone who wants to raise funds to fight breast cancer can be a team leader. The first step is contact the Making Strides to learn more, and attend the Kick-off.
Potential team leaders will then pick a name for their team, tell their co-workers, friends and family that they’re raising money to fight breast cancer. Making Strides will then provide the team leader with “walk papers” to record what people donate, as well as posters and notices to let co-workers and neighbors know about the team.
Money for the walk can also be raised on the internet. Making Strides has a free and easy website where you can set up your own secure webpage with a personal picture and your own comments. You can automatically send emails to co-workers, friends and family to let them know about your team, and automatically send them thank-yous when they donate.
It’s an easy way to reach lots of people. Visit http://makingstrides.acsevents.org/brooklyn to learn more.
