Jo Anne Simon has surpassed Steve Levin as the leading fundraiser in the battle to replace David Yassky for the 33rd district City Council seat.
Also in the seven−person race are Evan Thies, Ken Diamondstone, Ken Baer, Isaac Abraham and Doug Biviano.
The district stretches along Brooklyn’s waterfront from Greenpoint to Cobble Hill and includes sections of Williamsburg and Brooklyn Heights.
According to the latest city Campaign Finance board filings, Simon has raised $82,782 and spent $55,956, while Levin has raised $82,356 and spent $23,068.
In the last filing period, which ended in March, Levin had $61,041 in his coffers while Simon had $26,371.
Also raising a hefty sum was Thies, who pulled in a hefty $71,020 while spending $32,268.
Diamondstone raised $47,839 and spent $17,650, while Abraham raised $40,088 and spent $30,157.
Baer raised $22,032 and spent $17,825 while Biviano pulled in $11,832 and spent $1,797.
According to New York City Campaign Finance law, City Council candidates can receive an extra $6 for every $1 of campaign contributions collected by city residents.
The first $175 of any contributions are available for these matching funds.
With the summer approaching, it’s the candidates’ goal to get enough matching funds that will leap−frog them to the $161,000 cap candidates can spend on a primary.
The matching funds are dispersed in July after the petitioning period ends and candidates are officially on the ballot.
