Lowell 5
Cyclones 2
July 9 at MCU Park
Cyclones manager Rich Donnelly blasted his boys for “sloppy” play that snapped a three-game winning streak.
“It was a lack of effort today,” he said. “We had three errors, and I think all of them were on routine plays. It was just sloppy and when you do that, you deserve to lose.”
Three Brooklyn errors turned into two unearned runs for the Spinners, and Lowell dodged a sweep with the 5–2 win at MCU Park.
With the Spinners already up 1–0 in the fifth, Lowell’s first baseman Nick Moore singled, and outfielder Williams Jerez doubled to begin the inning. Catcher Miguel Rodriguez and shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin each hit sacrifice RBIs, and a throwing error by Cyclones’ third baseman Anthony Chavez allowed another run in the nightmare inning.
Clones’ second baseman L.J. “Mini-Maz” Mazzilli recorded his first and second errors of the season — the second one allowing another Lowell run in the ninth.
Cyclones’ outfielder Jorge Rivero was one of the lone bright spots for Brooklyn, hitting RBIs on both of his hits, but it was too little, too late.
The Cyclones embark on a six-day road trip, starting with the Auburn Doubledays tomorrow at 7:05 pm.
