The Cyclones topped the Renegades in the first game of a double-header Saturday to tie first place, dominating Hudson Valley over a three-inning rally with the top six batters in the lineup contributing seven runs batted in, but promptly fell out of first with a loss in the nightcap.

After Ross Adolph put the Clones up by two with a homer before the game was called Friday, our boys scored two more in the fourth before a five run rally in the fifth.

Walter “Rabbi” Rasquin singled in All-Star Ross Adolph, who had singled and moved to third on a base hit. After a wild pitch moved Carlos Cortes to third, Chase Chambers singled to plate him. Wagner Lagrange then singled in Rasquin, before a pitching change. A single from Brian Sharp moved Chase Chambers to third, who then scored on a wild pitch. One out later, Hayden Senger cracked a sacrifice fly to drive in Lagrange.

Hudson Valley scored one in the third and another in the seventh ,but came nowhere near Brooklyn’s comfortable lead.

Briam Campusano pitched the first two innings of the game on Friday night, and Kevin Smith took over on Saturday and gave up one run to earn the win before Adam Hill came on in the fifth, Billy Oxford in the seventh, Ezequiel Zabaleta in the eighth and Ryan Selmer in the ninth.

Cyclones 3

Aug. 18 at Hudson Valley (Game two, seven innings)

As quickly as the Cyclones tied first place, they lost it, after Yeudy Colon walked in the winning run in the eighth inning of the second, shortened game.

Ross Adolph homered twice, one leading off in the first and another solo shot in the fifth. Carlos Cortes doubled in the third to drive in Dylan Tice, who had singled, to put the Clones up 3–0.

The Renegades staged a late comeback, scoring one in the sixth and two in the seventh before Colon’s fateful walk in the eighth.

Our boys have been walked off on in four out of five games at Hudson Valley this season.

With the double-header split, the Cyclones sit one game behind the Renegades at 33–26, and a game ahead of the surging Staten Island Yankees (31–26) in the McNamara Division — the toughest division in the bus leagues.

Brooklyn hopes to clinch the series — and move back into first — tonight at Hudson Valley at 5:05 pm.
