Assemblymembers Joan Millman and Jim Brennan, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes, New York Methodist Hospital, Congregation Beth Elohim, the Park Slope Civic Council, Brooklyn Community Board Six and the Junior League of Brooklyn sponsored a Community Volunteer Fair (pictured), which brought together hundreds of potential volunteers with community organizations serving Brooklyn. The event hosted more than 70 non-profit organizations at Congregation Beth Elohim, 274 Garfield Place in Park Slope, serving the homeless, the hungry, the elderly, the arts and the community. In addition, peer ambassadors were available to help to direct high school age volunteers to appropriate community service placements. “Our goal was to foster the spirit of volunteerism in Brooklyn, and thanks to the hard work of all the sponsors, we achieved that goal,” said Millman. “The organizations represented at this fair serve the unique needs of our community, and they depend on the service of volunteers. I encourage all of my constituents to devote a portion of their free time to volunteering.”
