Sportsmed scholarships

Six college-bound students received a financial boost when Metro SportsMed presented them with scholarships for their higher education during a ceremony at KeySpan Park.

The endowments marked the physical and occupational therapy facility’s annual scholarship athlete awards at the local baseball turf, 1904 Surf Avenue.

The recipients in the girls group were: Allison Behette and Erica Tierney, Bishop Kearney, 2202 60th Street, who received first and third place, respectively; and Alexa Segal, Leon M. Goldstein High School for the Sciences, 1830 Shore Boulevard, who was awarded second place.

The boys winners were: Alexander Bortoc, Abraham Lincoln High School, 2800 Ocean Parkway, first place; Ayobami Fatade, Clara Barton High School, 901 Classon Avenue, second place; and Paul Nasri, Midwood High School, 2939 Bedford Avenue, who came in third.

The students were judged on their athletic and academic performances, and received $500, $250 and $100 in scholarships for first, second and third place, respectively.
